GlobalGiving - Setting A New Standard

From time to time I report about different organizations that are making a difference. Some of these have been for profit companies and some are nonprofits themselves.

Recently, however, I stumbled across yet another interesting organization I wanted to share with my readers. This nonprofit organization is called GlobalGiving. You go to their website and find a project from their list of 450 pre-selected grassroots worldwide charity projects. They further state on their website that of the monies collected they will be dispersed and “on the ground” within sixty days so you can be assured that there is a quick and prompt result from your donation. Likewise, you will get regular updates on how the money was spent and how the project is going.

Looking deeper on their site you will find that 10% of donations are retained to cover operation expenses. Also, since 2001 a total of eight million dollars in donations have been made by more than 12,500 unique donors to fund over one thousand different projects. All this is impressive; however, what I think sets this organization apart from any other that I have seen so far is what they call their: “GlobalGiving Guarantee.”

“GlobalGiving Guaranteed is a groundbreaking new program that guarantees GlobalGiving online donors a positive giving experience. The guarantee is the first program of its kind in the US and covers contributions up to $10,000.

GlobalGiving Guaranteed is a way to increase accountability to donors, strengthen our own responsiveness, and create a critical feedback loop to find out more about what our donors want.

How It Works
Any donor who makes an online contribution at GlobalGiving.com and is not satisfied with their giving experience may invoke the guarantee by phone or email. Subsequently GlobalGiving will refund the donation in the form of a gift certificate equal to the value of the original donation, which the donor can contribute to a different project on the site. The Guarantee can be activated at any time within a year after the original donation has been made, up to $10,000 per year, per donor.”

This is so refreshing to see a nonprofit not only trying to respond to the needs of the world but also equally concerned about how the donor feels and making sure their needs are met as well.

Isn’t this the way it should be with every contribution that is made?
